Two Candidates Repeat Talking Points

Seven things you need to know:

Finance 'n' Politics
• Britain is bailing out its banks to the tune of billions of dollars.
• Here's the one debate recap you might read: "Against a backdrop of an unfolding meltdown in global financial markets and the near-certainty of a U.S. recession, the two candidates for president used the occasion of a much-anticipated town hall meeting last night to repeat all the talking points they were making long before the recent bank failures, the free fall of stock prices, and the federal government's expensive rescue efforts."

Media
Vanity Fair gets Moneyball author Michael Lewis from Portfolio and the New York Times. Even while the Times magazine was paying him $30,000 story fees.
• The new publisher of the Los Angeles Times thinks it's "treason" for his staff to talk to reporters.

Really Important News
Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman are back together!
• What's it like having four older brothers, Changeling actor Jason Butler Harner? "I have been hung off a 24-story building by my ankles, I had my toothbrush shoved up their ass and then I had to brush my teeth with it. I was put in a dryer. I was peed on. I was left out in the rain. I can't begin to tell you about how many noogies, wedgies, and why-are-you-hitting-yourself's I went through."

Foreign Bureau
• Traffic and rage are out of control in East Baghdad.

Sarah Palin, holding for Jason Butler Harner on Line 1; wants to know if maybe possibly one of his older brothers looks anything somewhat like Barack Obama.

I am mystified that they didn't ask McCain about negative campaigning and his reversal of stance on it. It would have been fair game since both campaigns are going negative right now. You know he feels like a dick about it or he would have done the Palin bullshit. I would have loved to see that turkey necked son of a bitch squirm or once again refer to 'that one.'
