< BACK TO Fresh Intelligence Secret Service Looking Into Potential Threat Against Obama
Wiley says the Secret Service did not begin looking into the matter until press reports, namely Dana Milbank's article in the Washington Post, surfaced today, because no agents at the event heard anything. "The Secret Service did not hear any threatening statements directed at targets under its protection and no threatening statements were reported to us by law enforcement or citizens at the event," Wiley told Radar. Also unclear: whether the remark was directed at Obama or Ayers if the words were actually "kill" and "him." Wiley said that the Secret Service had tried to get in touch with Milbank to get his account of the event but was unsuccessful. Were the they able to confirm the remark they'd "be looking to talk to that person," Wiley said. "We investigate everything because we take all threats seriously." "Oh, now c'mon you guys, let's not be threatenin' anybody here just yet, nkay?" Posted by: KarenUhOh on October 7, 2008 4:53 PM Some idiot in the crowd said it. The Left is saying that she is starting a lynch mob. They should be ashamed of themselves but they are not. Posted by: morninmist on October 7, 2008 5:44 PM She should be mortified about herself, McCain should feel flummoxed about his own nasty boy self, and the racist nutbags at these rallies who shout out this kind of garbage should be invited to suck on a hand grenade forthwith. I'll pull the pin. Posted by: sailor on October 7, 2008 5:49 PM Andrew Sullivan brought up whether they could be increasing the likelihood of a nut going after Obama on his blog earlier today, which I actually thought was really interesting. Palin is basically calling Obama a terrorist- that is how the mccain campaign is 'rallying the base,' and when i say 'base' i mean 'base.' The rhetoric embraced by McPalin is desperate, hind brained, racist, evil, cheap, manipulative, vile, and just fucking wrong. Responding to mormonmist- she is not lynching him, but she's a hell of a rope salesman. Posted by: kdilkington on October 7, 2008 6:04 PM Advertisement sorry, salesperson. Posted by: kdilkington on October 7, 2008 6:08 PM I HEARD IT LOUD AND CLEAR AND I AM HARD OF HEARING! Another thing that bothers me is this "bull Joe 6 pack" crapola. If anyone I knew drank that much daily they would be a serious alcoholic. Doesn't anyone watch "Intervention" on Monday nights between 8 and 10 on A @ E? Posted by: trille on October 7, 2008 7:40 PM I HEARD IT. And what is this crap about "Joe 6 pack,is, in my mind a serious alcoholic. trille Posted by: trille on October 7, 2008 7:59 PM This is a GREAT GET. It's linked on RealityChex.com at http://www.realitychexcom along with many other issues & opinions relating to the presidential race. Posted by: marieburns on October 8, 2008 10:29 AM Yitzchak Rabin was assisinated after the political opposition to him began tagging him as a traitor, a friend to terrorists. It is Sarah Palin who should be investigated. There are things one is--legally--not permitted to say about a protectee of the Secret Service. It is a clear legal limit to "Free Speech." We MUST act to interdict this BEFORE the forseeable consequence of her reckless--and quite possibly illegal--actions. There are relevant statutes addressing incitement and this was not merely some looney at a rally. It was a direct and predictable response to her rhetoric. The predictable wing-nut right will cry censorship over this post but I care about the law, not the foamy mouthed raving of Sean Hannity wannabes. When I hear a crowd of White people booing the dangerous Black man and cries of "Treason!" and "Kill him!" and signs denouncing the "terrorist" start showing up in clear response to the rabble-rouser on the stage I don't need a Ph.D. in psychology and history to see the danger. Posted by: Ken1971 on October 8, 2008 11:43 AM I think McCain and Palin need to address these concerns and tell people they do not condone violence against Obama and the media. They need to come out and say that straight up. That way, they would be clarifying their stance and kind of clear up at least a portion of the negative image we have of them. Furthermore, they need to lay off on the blame game (ie "I come across as an idiot because the media hates Republicans" and "Obama hangs out with terrorists") Accept responsibility for the way your comments have been construed and clarify your position. Granted, they cannot be held accountable for the comments of someone in the audience, they do need to address them. They're obviously seriously damaging their campaign (amongst other idiotic things like "that one"). Im a Democrat. I think the fact they are not addressing these issues only reinforces the idea they are nothing more than hatemongers. Posted by: jainypoo on October 8, 2008 12:03 PM So what? Is sandra bernhardt being investigated for suggesting that Palin be gang-raped by "big, black bruthas"? That is both an incitement to violence AND a racial hate crime. And yes, william ayers IS a terrorist and an enemy of the USA - even though he now uses a different methodolgy. And there are several other associates of obama which demonstrate that he too is a despiser of the US and an anti-White racist. Posted by: HiddenPaw on October 8, 2008 12:12 PM HiddenPaw, you can't possibly compare Sandra Bernhardt's horrible comments with anything that comes out of Sarah Palin's mouth. Sarah Palin is running for Vice President. If the McCain/Palin ticket wins, there is a distinct possibility she will step into the presidency. When someone who is running for arguably the most powerful position in the world is race-baiting and potentially inciting to riot, lynch mob, etc... it is worthy of making a huge deal out of it. Sandra Bernhardt is a nothing actress, who made idiotic comments. Posted by: progressivepam on October 8, 2008 2:01 PM HiddenPaw - Posted by: stplacids on October 8, 2008 2:22 PM HiddenPaw, Sandra Bernhardt is not running for office or rallying crowds to a common cause. Notice we are not ranting here about Ann Coulter who has said worse things. That's because she is not running for office either. So what you say? So I hope the Secret Service investigates you for sympathizing with this dangerous assassination rhetoric. Posted by: keith52 on October 8, 2008 5:13 PM Secret Service?! looks like the whole team is on secret service...
Posted by: weeklyworldnews on October 8, 2008 5:30 PM Palin should be held to the same standard that she is trying to introduce as the new standard of character judgment for America vis-à-vis her BS regarding Ayers. The Secret Service should arrest Palin because of the death threat one of her supporters yelled out at one of her "Gidget addressing the Reichstag" rallies. Posted by: Kuni on October 8, 2008 6:33 PM Kuni I agree with standards. But that's a insult to the real Gidget.... Posted by: TheOne23456789 on October 8, 2008 7:20 PM What do you expect from Joe Six pack? If you do a search of Drunk Palin daughter, you'll see the daughters of Sarah and Todd, chugging and drinking like they took lessons from the Bush twins! Posted by: dolfina365 on October 8, 2008 10:14 PM What if the person who shouted those things was a paid Republican operative, like the ones they paid to form a mob to intimidate Florida vote counters in 2000? That sounded like a trained performer's voice to me, so loudly heard above the crowd, and timed just right to come across clearly. I hope our fellow citizens in the Secret Service find out who that man was. If it turns out that was a paid Republican operative, I hope they put the guilty on trial, and we have our first presidential election with one candidate in jail facing charges of inciting a crowd to assassinate a presidential candidate. I hope most of all that it's NOT a GOP operative, and it really was some "lone nut" the Secret Service can keep an eye on, but if McCain and Palin are guilty of paying an actor or carnival barker to shout those things, they should face serious charges of inciting a crowd to assassinate a United States Senator and future President. Posted by: Arise on October 9, 2008 12:48 AM HiddenPaw this is really for you!! Folks, if we want to start bringing up past associations let's talk about McCain serving and working alongside people with virulent bigoted pasts like Sens. Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd? We do know that they were absolutely anti-American, did not represent the best of this nation. Thurmond was a Dixiecrat (For those of you who don't know what a Dixiecrat is: The States' Rights Democratic Party opposed racial integration and wanted to retain Jim Crow laws and racial segregation. The party's slogan was "Segregation Forever!) in 1948 with a platform of maintaining segregation. Based on Helms' policies, he didn't see blacks as full Americans. When Byrd was twenty eight years old, he wrote about the 1945 racial integration of the military to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo: --Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944 Posted by: mw on October 9, 2008 12:13 PM The Secret Service are not doing their jobs. If these threats were made at an Obama Rally by Joe Biden, the secret service would drag those people out of the crowd by their necks. A lynch mob has no place in America politics and those secret service who did nothing about it should be fired. Posted by: theonedc on October 9, 2008 12:35 PM The secret service also investigates when people advocate doing similar things to George Bush or Sarah Palin, like Sandra Bernwhore. And Byrd is a Democrat. Posted by: Sai1or on October 10, 2008 11:13 AM So McCain should be held responsible for what other people say? Give me a break, last time I checked we are all entitled to free speech. No one is going to do anything to Obama, and you know it. Posted by: GirlFriday on October 11, 2008 11:34 PM Trille may have thought they heard the threat, but the Secret Service begs to disagree. Posted by: lisfan on October 17, 2008 6:13 PM "The Secret Service did not hear any threatening statements directed at targets under its protection and no threatening statements were reported to us by law enforcement or citizens at the event," \ This explains it all Obama wasn't under their protection. How convenient. Posted by: gardener on October 19, 2008 10:32 AM |
