Every Once in a While with Rachel Ray

Perky epicure Rachel Ray can't be roasted for burning through a slew of staffers at her eponymous Every Day with Rachel Ray. The sparkplug chef is rarely there.

The Post reports this morning that the mag is losing a managing editor to Popular Mechanics and has lost an executive editor and a lifestyle editor in recent months. Part of the reason is likely Ray's impulsive and erratic editing, especially when it comes to pictures of herself, a source tells Radar.

She doesn't typically mingle with the underlings, though, deals only with a few choice people, and only gives an hour of her time to shoot four to five covers, "including wardrobe changes," the source adds. She's a nervous wreck at shoots, too—"It's an insecurity thing,"—and typically requires a couple glasses of bubbly to relax. Even still, she's been known to reject the advice of stylists (clearly a problem in the past) and insists on using the same makeup artists who paint her up for her TV show. In the mag, adds the source, the petite gourmand and tenth potential dog-injurer ends up looking like an "orange tramp."

On the other hand, Every Day's circulation is up 67.4 percent to 1,664,672 in the second half of 2007, Keith Kelly reports, and ad pages in the first quarter were up 38.1 percent. Staff defections aside, staying away is working for Rachel Ray!
